Alstroemeria aurea

Another interesting Alstroemeria. It is one of the first to be taken out of Chile for propagation and it served as a genetic pool for creating new vaireties. It is rather high (reaching up to 1 m), so it is best suited for outdoor growing. Not very demanding, but still you need to provide good watering and good, rich soil. Snow-hardy and can resist frost down to -15º C.

This is a very beautiful Alstroemeria. It germinates relatively easily, grows fast, is undemanding. It tolerates some freezing, but its natural habitat is the medium altitude mountains. In Chile it is quite common in several areas.

This Alstroemeria is not as showy as many other alstoemerias, and has delicate pink-colored medium sized flowers. It needs relatively rich soil, considerbale watering, and is snow-hardy. In its natural habitat it prefers shady places under the trees.

This anemone is quite common in the central-southern parts of Chile and when blooming, presents a beautiful show with numerous white flowers which transform themselves into cottony seeds. It generally grows on volcanic soils with very good drainage and little organic matter. Snow is not a problem, watering should be average.

This is a delicate, but beautiful plant which is relatively easy to grow. As with all calceolarias, the main problem is the size of the seedlings, so one must be very careful when transplanting. Compared to other calceolarias, this one needs considerably less watering. Once established, it can withstand snow cover and freezing temperatures.
