Germination of Pasithea coerulea

Cold stratify for 28- 31 days at 3c. Check after 21 days as seed will germinate under these conditions in the fridge. Remove after 31 days and seedlings make steady growth. Seedlings have grown to 5 cm after 26 days with a germination percentage of 100%. Temperatures during germination ranged from 4c to 18 c.

Peter: I have pasitheas c. from seeds, now they have 10 cms. but some of the leaves are coming yellow, why???

Hi Laca

Not too sure about the requirements of this species as it is a new one to me. Have googled it on the net but not much information about it there.
My seed gave me 100% germination and they have grown strongly since germinating. I am about to pot them on into individual containers now that their root system has developed well. At this stage my seedlings show no yellowing after 54 days. Maybe you could try a liquid fertiliser as a foliar application, they may be getting a bit hungry. I use a product called SEASOL which is a plant tonic rather than a fertiliser.
How old are your plants? I have uploaded a picture of my seedlings at 54 days old. They are about 125mm in size. They are still looking pretty healthy, maybe Michail can be of more help with your question.

Hi Peter, my english is not good so be patient, please. Well, my pasitheas( I get the seeds from some plants near I live in La Reina, stgo, and with no special treatment and hope grow very strong) have 2 month I think. I put them in the garden , and sow the roots, they are fine, but in the pot discovered many "tijeretas", littles scorpions, (we have a plague here), maybe they could be the reason??? How prevent the appearance of this littles animals??

Hi Laca,

I don't know much about your "tijereta" friends but I don't think they would feed on the roots of your plants. If they do feed on them however, this could cause yellowing as a result of the root damage which is caused. I still think its more likely a mineral deficiency (iron) in your soil that is causing the problem.

Hi Peter,
my Pasitheas already lost their leaves (plants have about six months). I wonder if we have to stop watering completely. Unfortunately it rained here a lot, I noticed that the "nodules" root rot in some cases. I'm afraid of losing them.

Hi Antonio,

My seedlings developed very quickly and strongly but once pricked out into individual containers I sustained a number of losses suggesting that Pasithea may resent root disturbance and perhaps have exacting moisture requirements when young, thus overwatering them early will promote rotting. It may be best to plant seed into individual pots to start with so they can be allowed to develop a stronger root system before they are planted out into their final position.

Hi Peter and als. I live in Japan.
I grow Pasithea coerulea for some years.
I love this fascinating blue flowers very much.(^.^)
I sowed them on September 28,2006(at temperature about 20 C)and they germinated October 10,2006.
The first flower bloomed on April 2009.
They go to dormancy in summer and come back in autume in my climate.
I never water them among the period of dormancy.
Here I posted the tubers and flower last year.

Thank you for this post. It answers my question on whether or not my Pasithea coerulea has gone into dormancy or has died.
