Fitzroya cupressoides grows in soils ranging from a pH of 5.5 (very acidic ranges from 5.2 to 5.5) to 6.5 (slightly acidic ranges from 6.1 to 6.5). It grows well in direct sun, and prefers medium levels of water. It has low drought tolerance.

Well, I grafted six scions of Fitzroya cupressoides, four onto Juniperus virginiana, and to on to Thuja Occidentalis, back on December 26th. Only one of the grafts onto Thuja appears to be holding. All four onto the Juniperus appear to actually be thriving, even with new growth already putting out on two of them. I intend to leave the grafting tape on for 5 more weeks before concluding this has been a success. And I realize that even if the grafts "take," they may fail in later years. I would be interested to know what kind of success others have had with grafting the Fitzroya cupressoides.
