Maihuenia poeppigii (Maihuén)
This cactus is very interesting for cultivation for several reasons. Firstly, this cactus grows in mountains and in winter it is covered by snopw during several months. Few cacti in the world can do that. For this same reason, it is very important to carry out cold stratification of the seeds. Secondly, this cactus is edible and has very big fruits, compared to its size. Thirdly, it grows fast and begins fruiting just in a few years. You should consider that most edible cacti may take up to 10 years before starting to produce fruits. This one is fast.

Muehlenbeckia hastulata (Quilo, Voqui negro, Molleca)
This climber is one of the most common ones in Chile and also one of the most interesting in terms of its resistence and the adaptability - it manages to grow in very different environmental conditions, grows very fast (it is the fastest native climber plant), and due to the form of its leaves is also quite attractive.

Puya berteroniana (Puya, Chagual, Cardon, Magüey)
This plant is an excellent option for outdoor growing in colder climates (-5º C), one of few bromeliaceae that can withstand freezing temperatures. Combine that with a very strange appearance, big green flowers and you get a first-class ornamental"

Puya coerulea (Chagualillo)
This is one of those all-terrain "exotic" Chilean plants which is relatively easy to grow and is suitable for a wide variety of environmental conditions. Its limiting factor is that it does not tolerate prolonged freezing temperatures and snow cover. Its red stem and branches make a nice contrast with the dark-purple, almost black flowers with their yellow stamens and green pistil, and it preserves its strange appearance when covered with fruits, which are reminiscent of garlic cloves.
